Artists wanted for free workshops
New Supported Studios Project in Oxford
Film Oxford is starting a new art project called the Shadowlight Supported Studio. This project is funded by the Arts Council of England. It will help learning-disabled and neurodivergent artists with support needs to create art during weekly Friday workshops.
What Will Happen:
- Free Art Workshops: Participants will join workshops at Film Oxford to make new art. They will create drawings, paintings, photos and films supported by professional artists.
- Art Exhibition: The project will conclude with an 8-week art exhibition at Modern Art Oxford, scheduled to open in January. The exhibition will show artwork created by the participants.
- Community Events: The exhibition will feature free special events aimed at both learning disabled people and the general public.

Who is running it:
The project is led by the Shadowlight Artists, a group of eight learning-disabled artists who began working together in 2009. They will help plan the project and find participants from their community. They will be supported by staff from the arts charity Film Oxford.
Why It Matters:
This project offers learning-disabled artists and newcomers interested in art the opportunity to learn new skills through fun guided workshops. They can then showcase their art and films at a gallery and invite friends and family to attend.
When and Where:
Most Sessions are held on Fridays, 10:30am – 1:00 pm. Some sessions will be longer, and there will be a few extra sessions on Thursdays. Participants don’t have to attend every session, but they should notify us of which ones they can attend.
Held at Film Oxford, 54 Catherine Street, Oxford, OX4 3AH.
